Dental Filling
What is Dental Filling?
Dental filling is a procedure that uses artificial materials to restore the structure of a tooth after it has lost tissue due to decay or damage. This is a common treatment in dentistry and is minimally invasive, meaning it does not deeply affect the tooth or surrounding tissues. Therefore, it is considered a safe and effective solution for restoring tooth function and aesthetics.

Step 1: Examination and Consultation
The dentist performs a comprehensive oral examination and assesses the tooth requiring filling to determine its condition. If the tooth has decay or pulp inflammation, it must be treated before the filling procedure. An X-ray may be taken to evaluate the severity of decay and whether it has affected the tooth structure, allowing the dentist to develop the most appropriate treatment plan.
Step 2: Applying the Filling Material
After cleaning the affected tooth area, the dentist uses specialized instruments to apply the filling material to the damaged or chipped tooth, beginning the restoration process.
Step 3: Shaping the Filling
The dentist carefully shapes the filling material to fit the cavity precisely, restoring the tooth’s natural form and ensuring optimal aesthetics.
Step 4: Light Curing
– A curing light is used to harden the filling material, ensuring durability and stability.
– The procedure typically takes about 20–30 minutes per tooth, depending on the condition of the tooth prior to treatment.
